INFORMATION

GENERAL

The Combustion & Chemical Engineering Tilting Furnace is fitted with an automatic Nu-Way package burner for firing with light oil or LP gas, designed for melting Gold, Zinc,Silver, Aluminium, Brass and Bronze Alloys with a maximum of efficiency, economy and safety.

The axis centre of the tilt is on the centre line of the pouring spout, allowing a fixed table for support of standard and cascade system bullion moulds. Tilting is achieved and controlled by electrically operated worm gear Linear "Actionjac" screw jacs.

The steel furnace casing is lined with Moral Cast 160 AR RFT medium high alumina castable of 1600°C service temperature, lined with 1000°c Superwool blanket (Grade X -607) for back up insulation and reduction of furnace skin temperature.

The burner remains fixed to the furnace frame when tilting of the crucible section occurs, returning to a Superwool flanged seal face when in the firing position.

The furnace lid has lift davit eye points for ease of maintenance and crucible replacement.

BURNER EQUIPMENT

The furnace can be supplied for oil or alternatively LP gas firing utilising Nu-Way automatic burners.

Burner operation is On/Off with two stage high/low flame settings, controlled by the furnace operator via selector switches at the control panel.

Flame supervision is by ionisation probe for LP gas and photo electric cell for oil burners. The burner comes complete with electronic automatic sequence controller providing furnace pre-purge prior to electric ignition of flame. Flame failure protection is provided by the controller which switches the burner to "Lock Out" and indicates the condition. "Refer to specific burner data sheet attached".

Air for combustion can be adjusted to obtain maximum combustion efficiency with air control device producing smooth start conditions.

An excess temperature thermostat is fitted to the burner draft tube to maintain FD fan operation to protect burner from excess radiated heat given off by the crucible and refractory until the furnace cools.

Prior to tilting, the burner flame is turned off by the operator, however, a proximity switch is fitted and connected to a master fuel isolation solenoid to terminate fuel to the burner as secondary protection for additional safety of operation.

FUEL

Oil Light distillate oil class 'D'
(1.5 - 5.5 cSt @ 40°C)
LP Gas 2.75 Kpa (11" W.G.) To be supplied from gas storage cylinder regulator

ADVANTAGES

Precious metal is fully protected by the crucible from contact with the flame, ensuring minimal metal losses from oxidisation.

CRUCIBLE SMELTING ADVANTAGES

Less contamination
There is no direct contact between the molten metal and the products of combustion. This reduces the solution of gas and impurities, such as sulphur.

Extreme flexibility and convenience
Different alloys can be melted in different crucibles to avoid contamination.

Low melting loss
The danger of excessive loss of volatile or readily oxidised metals is practically eliminated. There is, therefore, no difficulty in producing alloys to accurate specifications.

Low capital and installation costs
The initial cost of crucible furnaces is relatively low and their installation involves the minimum of constructional work.

TILTING SYSTEM

A single electric Actionjac Linear actuator is used on the furnace range up to model CCE1153TF-maximum thrusts - 1500 kgf.

Duplex drive actuators are used on the models CCE58TF and CCE10TF.

Travel Rate: 12mm / second
Power: 415/440V 4 wire 50Hz

Tilt is controlled by furnace operator via an On/Off, Forward/Reverse combination switch at control panel.

INSTALLATION

The furnace floor assembly is fitted with forklift tynes and lifting davit eye's sections for ease of unloading and locating on the furnace room floor.

Pre-drilled flanged foot plates are provided for bolting furnace down on a level concrete floor. Connection of fuel and electricity supply is all that is required. All electrical supply is to a common termination control box.

Furnace exhaust ducts should be considered for the evacuation of combustion gases out of the furnace room if insufficient natural air circulation is not available through the furnace working area.

COMMISSIONING

All furnaces are pre-fired at factory prior to despatch with burner combustion settings carried out with a Bacharach CA40H Combustion Analyser.

A combustion gas analysis print out of the test firing is supplied with the furnace.
